I love God’s Word, don’t you? I love having His Word stored in my heart. I love when God brings exactly the right verse to mind at exactly the right time. Those are God moments!
God has given us so many ways to memorize. One wonderful memory tool is movement. Movement? Yes, movement is a great way to store God’s Word in your heart. Let me tell you my 4 M’s of memorizing by moving.
1. Meditate: Take a moment to think about your verse. What does the whole verse mean? What does each word mean? Look up words you don’t know. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding.
2. Move With Meaning: Now that you understand your verse, make up movements that go with it. Use facial expressions, hand gestures, and whole body movements. Stomp your feet, scowl, leap for joy! Do whatever goes with the verse.
3. Muscle Memory: While you’re moving your muscles, you’re storing information to help you remember your verse. This is called muscle memory. Pay special attention to how you transition from one movement to the next – this will help keep your verse in order.
4. More Oxygen: Have you ever noticed how moving around perks you up? Moving brings more oxygen to your blood. More oxygen means more thinking power! So get moving and get memorizing!
