God blesses us for memorizing! James 1:25 explains, “But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it - not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it - they will be blessed in what they do.”
God’s Word is powerful. Hebrews 4:12 teaches, “For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” God wants us to live on His Word. Matthew 4:4 says, “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” ‘ “ To know God we need to know His Word. In Psalm 119:97 King David exclaims, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.” John 1:1 teaches that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” To know the Word is to love the Word. To love the Word is to love God. God’s Word helps us to not sin. In Psalm 119:11 King David wrote, “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” God can bring His Word to you to avoid temptation and to guide you. |
God’s Word helps us spread the Good News. In Isaiah 55:11 God explains that, “My word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Your memorized Bible verses are always available, any time, anywhere, for you to share with others.
God’s Word guides us and gives us joy. In Psalm 119:24 King David says, “Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.” Memorization leads to meditation, prosperity, and understanding. Joshua 1:8 promises this: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” God’s Word protects us. Ephesians 6:17 explains that, “The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,” is part of our spiritual armor. If we know the Word, the Lord can bring it to us for our protection. Jesus himself used the Word of God to combat the enemy. God longs for us to know Him, love Him, talk about Him, and focus on Him. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.“ |
